SWPA has three membership categories and a non-member option. Persons
in all three of the member categories of the Southwestern Psychological
Association may submit abstracts for SWPA presentations at the upcoming
convention or submit abstracts to our affiliate organizations (Psi Chi,
SAMR, SWToP, SCPA, TPA). In some cases, non-members may submit
abstracts to affiliate oragnizations (see affiliate guidelines).
All persons who wish to submit to (or be a co-author on) any part of
the convention program must have an up-to-date profile (member or
non-member as appropriate).
After determining the appropriate member or non-member category (see
member descriptions below):
Applicants for SWPA Member Status:
Create a Profile and Pay Dues:
- Create a login / password and
complete the online membership profile
- Submit your dues payment. After you login, you can pay your dues
online using a credit card (preferred method) or you can mail a check
to our Secretary-Treasurer. If you wish to pay both membership dues and
convention registration at one time (prior to the abstract deadline),
then you can receive a "bundle" discount and save $5 on your dues.
Alternatively, you can pay dues prior to abstract submission and pay
registration later, or if you do not plan to attend the convention, you
only pay dues and do not need to pay registration at all.
Note: Any registration paid less than 3
weeks prior to the opening of
the convention will have a $15 late registration fee added.
Membership
Category Explanations for SWPA members and Non-members (Link to Create

Student Membership
- Student members shall be persons enrolled in a psychology program
and who have the endorsement of someone who is currently has full
member status (see description below) or request an endorsement from
the SWPA Membership Registrar Amy Dicke-Bohmann. Those requesting
an endorsement from the SWPA Registrar should email an unofficial
transcript showing current enrollment to Amy.Bohmann@tamusa.tamus.edu.
- Student members are entitled to all rights and privileges of the
Association except holding of offices other than student
representatives.
- Annual dues $20
Full Membership
- Professionals who are current members of national or
international psychological associations (e.g., APA, APS, and others),
or are members of widely recognized specialized societies of
psychologists are eligible for membership without the endorsement of a
current SWPA member.
- With the endorsement of a current SWPA member or endorsement from
Membership Registrar Amy Dicke-Bohmann, persons may be eligible for
membership if they have completed a master's degree or Ph.D. in
psychology from an accredited graduate institution or has at least two
years of graduate level work, but is currently not enrolled as a
student.
- Once regular membership is attained, a person may not return to a
different membership level.
- SWPA members are entitled to all rights and privileges of the
Association without restriction.
- Annual dues $55
New
Full Member Offer: If you are joining for the first time as a
full member AND you have been in the SWPA region for fewer than 3
years, then we offer your first year of membership free. Please
complete a member profile and then contact our Membership Registrar,
Amy Dicke-Bohmann (Amy.Bohmann@tamusa.tamus.edu) to have her process
your free membership. You will still need to pay registration if you
plan to attend the convention.
Associate Members
- Associate members shall be individuals who have completed an
undergraduate degree in psychology, or are currently employed in a
psychology-related field, or are endorsed by a current SWPA member or
by the SWPA Membership Registrar Amy Dicke-Bohmann
(Amy.Bohmann@tamusa.tamus.edu), but who do not meet the requirements
for full or student membership.
- All associate membership applications will be reviewed for
approval by the Executive Council.
- Associate Members are entitled to all rights and privileges of
the Association except the holding of offices.
- Annual dues $30
Non-members
SWPA also offers a non-member category. Non-members may
only submit abstracts for affiliate organizations meeting with SWPA.
(Check with the affiliate organizations for any membership requirements
for submission to their part of the program.). There are no criteria
for non-members. Non-member registration is $90 for three days or
$50 for one day of the convention. You may pay your convention
registration at any point, although any registration paid less than 3
weeks prior to the opening of the convention will have a $15 late
registration fee added.
